Not Just a Problem of Age
Assuming that chronic care is mostly a problem for older adults is a mistake. Nearly half (45%) of those affected are younger than 45. Fifteen percent are millions of children with diabetes, asthma, developmental disabilities, and other disorders.
This pie chart shows the percentage of people with chronic conditions according to age group. About 15% of people with chronic conditions are 19 years old or younger, 30% are 20-44 years old, 31% are 45-64 years old, 17% are 65-79 years old, and 7% are 80 years old or older.
